Daybook: For Today, September 21, 2017
Looking out my window
It is my favorite kind of weather: rainy and overcast. Autumn has arrived early (I hope it stays a while!)
I am thinking
Thinking and wondering why I will insist upon tackling so many projects at once. Really it just seems to happen.
Painting the dining room, (which somehow evolved into painting part of the butler’s pantry…)
Writing of course and homeschool, various other house projects, making solid plans for Fall Break and the holidays(!), and a (nearly) complete “Autumnal Clear-out” of Witt’s End.
I am thankful
For my family, positive thoughts, faith, and hot tea!
One of my favorite things
Besides hot tea… Looking forward to the first wood fire of the year! With the way the weather’s looking I think it may arrive soon.
I am creating
The ending to one work in progress, the middle of another. A tidier house, a more colorful house! Plans galore.
I am wearing
My standard around the house “uniform”: grey thermal leggings, a T shirt, a light jacket, fuzzy multicolor slippers.
(Guilty Admission: I aspire to a capsule wardrobe, something my love of diversity, color, and patterns is at odds with!)
I am reading
NOTWITHSTANDING by Louis de Bernieres, honestly and easily one of the best written things I’ve read in a looooong time! I’m looking forward to discovering more of this great writer’s works.
I’m watching last season’s “Once Upon A Time” (via netflix) with Scott and Rory. We’ll be ready when the new season begins.
I am hoping
For peace, good health, and prosperity.
I am learning
Always patience I fear.
And to enjoy the View Ahead.
In my kitchen
Lately we’ve been enjoying lots of zucchini and mushrooms in fresh marinara sauce over pasta or chicken.
And, since Cade’s birthday was a few days ago there’s been entirely too much cake around here of late!
(Though the below chicken, prepared by my excellent son, and kale and cabbage salad, was also delicious.)
In the school room
Heaven help us – but Rory’s 9th Grade Year has begun! (9th Grade! I can’t fathom it at all… How did this happen?) We began this year with The American Civil War (I’ve been remiss in organizing tests and requirements for the unit though – again too many “to dos”.) He’ll be doing a lot of various types of written papers, working toward his “earning all the merit badges” goal, as well as all the usual subjects and (too many) new ones!
In my garden
The annual bottling of tomatoes (which traditionally takes place on the 18th of September – somehow that didn’t happen) will be happening soon. As well as some plum conserve this year, and of course, salsa!
Don’t you love pinterest!
Since life has been so very busy and full, we’ve decided to switch our Hygge By Post Subscription Boxes from a monthly to a quarterly box! Info on this and more will be in our Autumn Newsletter. Enter your email on this page to find out more.
Courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point.
A moment from my day
The very much a work in progress mess which is currently my dining room. (Hopefully it will look a lot better by day’s end.)
Have I none!
Other than wishes of peace to everyone, and a beautiful Autumn and Winter.
(Ok – I had a few Closing Notes 😉
